The Foodbank is based at Westminster Chapel and provides three days’-worth of nutritionally balanced (non-perishable) food to residents in the Borough of Westminster experiencing financial crisis, through a voucher scheme. It is part of a nationwide network of Foodbanks overseen and supported by the Trussell Trust (through training and resources).
A huge thanks goes to those who have generously donated to the Foodbank throughout December 2019. Due to an influx of donations, our storerooms are at absolute MAX capacity and we cannot accept ANY more food. If you have collected for us please hang onto it until January or call other Foodbanks in the area who may need it. We apologise to anyone who may show up, but we cannot make use of any food that comes between now and December 31st.
How does it work?
Food is donated by church members and local people (e.g. schools, businesses and charities) and stored at the church. Volunteers sort and pack the food into food bags. Foodbanks partner with front-line care professionals, who identify people in crisis and give them a voucher. On taking their voucher to the Foodbank centre, people receive a warm welcome, a hot drink and their food bag. If appropriate, they will also be put in touch with agencies that may be able to provide further assistance.

How do I donate food or money?
We are able to accept food donations during normal office working hours (9am-4.30pm, Monday to Thursday). Please download a food donation form here and include it with your donation. The items we regularly need are here.
If you plan to deliver donations during the working week, please give us a call on 020 7834 1731 (x 224) so that we know when to expect you. When you arrive at the front of the Chapel, go through the passageway between the steps and the newsagent and press the Foodbank buzzer. Someone will come and let you in.
If you prefer, you can drop off donations between 10am and 10.45am on a Sunday, before our morning service. There is a supermarket trolley in the vestibule at the top of the steps for donations. If the trolley is not there, please speak to one of our Welcome Team.

The reasoning behind this initiative:
As a church, we take our cue from the Bible, and the words of the prophet Isaiah:
“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter – when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? … If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk, and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.”
